Colombia

Before I got to Colombia the only things I knew about this country were the Medellin Cartel, the FARC guerillas and football team. But when I arrived I was surprised to find out a country with a specatcular geography, good looking and clean cities and friendly people. Above all, I was very happy to see once again Romanian built cars like IMS, ARO, Daewoo Cielo, Dacia and Oltcit, very popular here. So popular that you can see more Dacia 1300 in Colombia than you can see in Romania!!! Roads are generally good but always enjoyable!

The launch boat

Since Sapzurro and Capurgana are not connected to any road, the next step was to get us and Palomina aboard a launch boat in order to get to Turbo, where the roads exist. The launch boat involved was powered by two 200HP engines and was capable of transporting up to 40 persons at 70km/h. Since the boat is open deck and it was raining, some of us got a plastic cover while the others got a trash bag for the same purpose. Even though there were some waves the guys maintained maximum speed so comfort was out of question. And this lasted for two hours!384 launch385 launch

Arrival in Sapzurro

Sapzurro is the first golf in Colombia. We unloaded Palomina first and then we went by taxi-boat to Capurgana, the next golf, to get the passports stamped. Then we returned to Sapzurro to spend the night there.376 sapzurro377 sap378 sap379 sap380 sap382 cap383 cap

Fritz the Cat

Fritz the Cat was our ride out of Carti. A 15m catamaran capable of sleeping up to 15 people (or so) sailing under the Austrian flag having Herr Fritz, from Austria, as the capitan and chef. Beside him, onboard there was Luis, the Colombian sailor and a former tiger trainer at circus, Siegfried, from Germany, Tulay, a Turkish lady also from Germany (both were capitan’s friend), and two other paying customers (at a rate of US$395 per person and US$395 per bike with all meals, coffee, tea and water included for 5 days): Gerolamo, an Italian actor living now in Berlin and Hitay, a Turkish webmaster. So, after struggling for one month to understand Spanish I had to start it all over since the most spoken language onboard was German. Everybody was a fan of traveling and stories about Cambodia, Venezuela, Spain, Cuba, South Africa and even Antarctica never stopped from being told. It felt like everyone was enjoying a non-stop vacation!363 cat364 cat365 cat366 cat367 cat368 cat369 cat370 cat372 cat

Capurgana, Colombia

After 5 days on the sea we finally got to Capurgana, Colombia. Everything went fine except I got some sun burns and Laura got sea sick 🙂 In this village we got our passports stamped and we are now looking to find another boat to Turbo. Once we are there I will resume postings.
