At $1.48 per US Gallon (or $0.39 per liter, for the 84 octane unleaded gasoline) this the lowest price we ever found. The 90 octane costs some $1.98 but is nowhere to be found…
The rotary phone
Discontinued in all other countries that we visited before, the rotary phone (with genuine pulse dialing) is still common in Ecuador. Back home, I still own a working machine manufactured in 1959 but I am unable to use it 🙁
Crashing in the wall
For the sake of variation and in order to satisfy my needs for adrenaline, sometimes I take Palomina (and Laura) off-roading. This time I lost control because of the grass and we ended up hitting some guy’s wall. No damages (besides some scratches), no injuries, just pure fun!
The Teleferiqo
The observation point (located at about 4100m above sea level) can be reached using the Teleferiqo, after an impressive 30-40 minutes ascent!
Transmission problems
This malfunction almost ended our trip! The chian got very worn and at one point it got off the rear sprocket. There was a chance to break the engine block as a result of the chain being caught entirely around the front sprocket, but fortunately we were spared. By luck, we were on top of a small hill, so we let the motorcycle roll down on the streets until we found a small shop. There, I managed to have everybody else work while I played with puppies and took some photos!
