Pablo Neruda National Railway Museum
From the bikers we learned about this museum, located in the city of Temuco. The museum was closed for repairs, since this year’s earthquake affected some buildings (lightly). However, we managed to find a hole in the wall and got inside to capture some photographs. The cars are located in the yard, showing various degrees of conservation and/or repairs, while all of the locomotives are inside the old depot. More info here.

It’s an incredible museum. Neruda’s father was the conductor of a ballast train at the turn of the century, shoveling gravel in between the rails that kept getting washed away by the southern winter rain, doing repairs all along the tracks. For more on Pablo, check out

Hi. Thanks. Where are you from and how do you know about this?
I’m from the US but have traveled a lot in Chile, and work for Red Poppy. Saw your post when I did a google search for Neruda.
Paz y poesia,
