Nobody conquers Vietnam!
After defending their country against the French and the Americans, now the Vietnamese are defending against big engine motorcycles. Apparently, no people managed to bring such bike and travel before 2009. Now, according to gt-rider.com it might be possible, but only with special approval from Ministry of Tourism, the Department of road control, the police, the military and the Trade Ministry.
Since we have no connection at the Ministry of Tourism, the Department of road control, the police, the military nor at the Trade Ministry, we had to rely on Voyage Vietnam to obtain the necessary approvals.
Hopefully they will do it! Otherwise, Vietnam shall be cancelled and the trip will start from Cambodia.

Dear Radu,
Yes, Vietnam is possible! Nikki and I were the first ever to enter legally on a foreign registered big bike (without police escort) in October 2009. We did organise it through Voyage Vietnam, who did a great job. It is our entry on gt-rider.com that set the precedent.
Our trip in 2009/2010 covered Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia, travelling some 20,000 Kms in a big loop. Certainly, Asia can be a challenge for cross-border riding, much more than in other parts of the word.

There is also a book of our journey, which is also available via the website. Although the book is a travelogue and series of quite exciting stories, it also explains the logistics involved in crossing each border crossing and shipping.
Happy travels. Willing to help you in any way we can.
Please keep in touch.
Regards,
Mark & Nikki Remenyi
