A train ride through the canyons

The Chihuahua – Pacifico railway has been completed in 1961 and offers spectacular views while going through countless tunnels and bridges from sea level up to 2400m altitude. We took the train from El Fuerte and rode about 5 hours each way. Security onboard was properly maintained by a group of men armed with hand guns and M16s.WTrain 3Train 2Train 1Train 0hat a magnificient experience! I have to thank Laura for this wonderful idea.

Sinaloa, Mexico

As we crossed the mountains and reached the coast, in the city of Hermosillo, the wheather was once again warm. We continued our way South, occasionally going through heavily defended checkpoints.HermosilloLunchCheckpoint

Heavy raining

Approaching Hermolsillo, we encountered heavy raining. During the first hour, the gear resisted quite well. But after that, moisture begain to go through here and there. We stopped at a restaurant to get warm and then we continued to Hermosillo, where we were forutnate to find a big and warm room (with private garage!!!) for pennies.UnpleasantDryingHotel

Sonora

Further East there is the State of Sonora. Big plains, big trucks (usually double-semis, 34-wheelers!), and finally I managed to put the bike down. Just look how impressive a truck looks after a turbocharger failure!!!Oil on truckDouble semiSonora plains

More Baja

From Tijuana we got to Rosarito, home of some Fox Studios. We were planning to visit the Titanic setting. Bad luck, that “museum” had been dismantled only 5 months ago. As we continued South (with the plan to reach Santa Rosalia and then take the ferry towards the mainland) we entered Ensenada, where we found out that one bridge has colapsed due to flood and mud sliding. The roads were closed, so we had to ride North-east, to Mexicali, to avoid being stucked down there…Baja dunesFox Rosarito
