The Sechura Desert
This is the second desert we had to cross, after the Sonoran Desert in Northern Mexico. But this was even more dry compared to the first one, and almost no plant was to bee seen. At some point the chain got off the sprocket… again. After such a long ride I was so tired I fell asleep right on the bike!
Entering Peru
Northern Peru seemed extremely poor: trash was everywhere, few paved roads, unmaintained buildings and rudimentary vehicles only. After some 50kms, due to poor signage, we lost the Panamericana. We continued on a country road, reached certain villages and we had to stop when the chain got off the sprocket (again!) in the middle of nowhere. Somebody offered to help with towing my bike. Shortly after, what I was expecting happened: I lost balance and I crashed the bike, destroying one fog light, one turn signal and injuring myself. Somehow a mechanic showed up and after some 1-2 hours of work Palomina was again in working condition. We got back on a main road that had no bridges so we had to cross several rivers through water!
From Cuenca to Macará
This was the last segment of road before exiting Ecuador and the third crossing over the Andes. Very spectacular views. For the first time since our departure (2 months!!!), we found something other than rice at an affordable restaurant. Next, on our way there was Loja, another colonial city (where we pictured the brown church with two towers). Finally we reached Macara (last 3 images), a place so boring and with such bad services that I want to never remember about it!
Cuenca, Ecuador
Cuenca is another colonial city located in a mountainous region in Southern Ecuador. There is not much I can say about it, but it was OK.
