The missing bridge

Just before reaching the shore we found out that the last bridge was still under construction and all vehicles had to go through the river. But because of the raining the river was high so we decided to remove the luggage so we won’t wet everything in case I lose control of the bike while crossing. As you can see from the pictures, the river was successfully crossed by BMW, Toyota, Nissan but not Ford which had to be towed… Finally it was julst like in the movies… the road led us to an abandoned air strip in the jungle and from there we reached the shore.347 missing bridge348 missing349 missing350 missing351 missing352 missing353 missing354 missing

A ride through the Kuna reservation

The kunas are indigenous people living in the coastal areas of Panama and Colombia. To get to Carti, our destination, we had to ride for about 90 minutes on a muddy road going through a thick jungle and crossing the Kuna reservation. A tropical rain made this more fun! Plus, the bike overheated at some point (the Yamaha fan seems to be not as good as the original…) so I had to cool it down with water from a nearby river.344 jungle345 jungle346 jungle

The Panama Canal

The main tourist attraction in Panama City area is the Panama Canal. At the Miraflores Locks (some 15km South of the city) there is a museum depicting the efforts made by the French and the Americans to build the canal. This museum features some scale models as well as original equipment and pictures. They also have an exhibit of fish and insects (some of them really big!) living in the nearby jungle.333 canal334 canal335 canal336 canal337 canal338 canal339 canal340 canal341 canal342 canal

More welding

In Panama City we almost lost the rear plate and the Pelican case together with that. Somehow all the weldings were cracked. A local shop solved the problem for $20.343 welding

Panama City, Panama

Panama City was our first stop in Panama. The city surprised us with the beauty of the old center and the spectacular waterfront of the newly developed areas. In the first picture there is a view of the city taken from the old Officer’s Club building. That building was destroyed during the US invasion of Panama in 1989. Sadly, this is our third journey in a row when we get to see traces of destruction caused by the US Armed forces worldwide…317 pan318 pan320 pan321 pan322 pan323 pan324 pan325 pan326 pan327 pan328 pan329 pan330 pan331 pan
