More Andes

The next destination was Cusco, but in order to get there we had to go once again over the Andes (the pass was at 4200m). The views were spectacular and very wild. Only a few villages, nothing more. Llamas were everywhere! At some point we almost ran out of fuel. There was no gas station but one guy was running a gas station inside his home, so the problem was easily solved.611 cuzco612 cuz613 cuz615 cuz616 cuz618 cuz619 cuz620 cuz

Camping location

After leaving Nazca, the road climbed sharply. It was getting cold and dark and there was no trace of any village, not to mention hotel. Rocks were everywhere, no sand and no grass to use for camping. We were running out of options but after talking to a truck driver we agreed to camp on top of the cement bags that he had in the trailer. Poor guy! His truck had some electrical problem and he was waiting for help for the past two days there. I’m wondering how long is he going to wait there…609 camp610 camp

The repairs

It took me and another guy from a shop around 12 hours, but now Palomina has a new water pump, oil seals, chain, sprockets, front brake hose, oil and filters! I hope this is enough for the next 10.000 miles… at least!606 fix607 fix608 fix

The parts are H E R E !!!

But getting them was tricky! In the morning we took our daily walk to the post office asking whether the package has arrived. They told us to get back later because probably it will arrive. Get back later, still no package.

“Where is the package?”
“Probably Lima. Come back tomorrow, maybe we have it.”
“Let’s call Lima, find out what’s going on.”
“Can’t call, they usually close earlier than us”
“Maybe they are still there. It’s only 3PM”
“OK, let me try”

“Hmmm, Lima told us we have the package, let me check again!”

“Well, actually it is here, but you have to pay the custom duty. Not here, at the bank”

We go to bank, bank says the postal worker was supposed to do this, not us, finally they accept the money, we return with the receipt. Then, after printing my name and passport number and signing on six different documents, notebooks, receipts etc we got the package.
After this I promise I will never complain again about the Romanian post being slow! 🙂605 ems
