More friends

In Brasilia we encountered more friendly people: Joe and Eladio. They invited us to stay at their houses, fed us and also wanted to fill our tank, too bad it was already full. In the first picture you can see us and two of them. Then, in the second picture, you can see Eladio ten years ago, when he went on a eight months motorcycle adventure from Brazil to Tierra del Fuego, to Alaska and finally to Miami (where he had to stop because his 250cc bike got stolen). Third picture shows him twenty years ago, during his first trip through Brazil only, an adventure that lasted for two years!

In the last picture there are more bikers that we encountered in a village, en route to Cuiaba. They were there to attend a party and invited us to join.

Michael

We met Mike, from Germany, in a gas station in Northern Argentina. He had been traveling on his old Africa Twin for one year, and he was close to the end of his journey. We rode together for about 100km until we part ways: he crossed the border in Brazil while we continued North towards Iguazu.1047 mike1048 mike

The Dakar KTM

Many people in Argentina are somehow involved in motorsport. We’ve seen many racing cars or bikes being transported on trailers everywhere, tuning shops in each town, and during night time, street racing is common. On TV, there are always news about Formula 1, MotoGP, WRC and other rallies. There’s no wonder the name of high grade gasoline is Fangio XXI!

One day we met a guy who was the owner/manager of a Dakar rally team, so I got the chance to rev the engine of a real racing bike for a bit! I also learned that he experienced in the past problems with water seals after using coolant purchased from Peru, so probably that’s why my brand new seals failed after changing the coolant in Nazca. And I was blaming the Austrians who manufactured my seals…

More adventure travellers encountered

As I said earlier, Ushuaia is a checkpoint for many tourists visiting South America. We ran into Nick, from NYC, who is now biking his way North towards Bolivia, and Akis and Vula, from Greece, who are now at the end of a 3 (THREE!!!) years worldwide journey aboard their Land Rover Disco3 (and as a coincidence, Akis used to race his bike at Serres, same place where I learned racing). Their blogs here and here. Looks like everybody we encounter is enjoying a continuous vacation! Have fun, guys!937 travel938 travel
